Counselling and Psychotherapy in South Buckinghamshire

Hello and welcome to my website.

My name is Charlotte Holloway and I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor and integrative psychotherapist. I have been working in private practice in Buckinghamshire for 13 years and in the last 3 years I have also been teaching students of psychotherapy at the Minster Centre in London. My practice is within easy reach of Amersham, Beaconsfield, The Chalfonts, Gerrards Cross and Slough and minutes from the M40. My work space is light and airy and located in a peaceful, semi-rural setting with stress-free private parking.

Given you are reading this, chances are that you are seeking some professional counselling or psychotherapy support. Perhaps you are feeling stuck in your life or overwhelmed or just not right within yourself and you would like to understand yourself better (see Symptoms ). Perhaps, like many others, you are struggling with post lockdown-related anxiety, depression or loss. These are very uncertain times but you don't have to be alone with these feelings. I can offer you support and a safe space to process your emotions, manage your stress and make space for renewed hope.

I can also offer help with specific issues such as

Abuse
Anger Management
Bereavement
Depression
General Anxiety
Life Transitions
Panic Attacks
PTSD
Relationship Issues
Self Esteem
Sexuality
Sleep Issues
Stress
Trauma

How can therapy/counselllng help?

Coming to therapy on a regular basis will give you a safe, calm, confidential and non judgmental space in which to make sense of your thoughts, feelings, sensations and patterns of behaviour. This process can help you regain a sense of yourself and your strengths and capacities. This in turn can enable you to make more informed choices and find more agency, acceptance and balance in your life.

How is talking to a therapist different from talking to a friend or family member?

It can help to talk to someone who has the time to really listen to you, who doesn't overreact to what you are saying or feeling and who doesn't have their own agenda. I am not going to judge you or try to persuade you of anything or try to give you answers. I believe that you have the answers. Therapy is a collaboration between us to identify your inner resources and to listen and connect to what you already know but may have somehow lost, forgotten or were never allowed to remember.

What does it entail?

Coming to therapy or counselling is a regular committment. I usually see clients once a week for a 50 minute session during which we work together to both explore what is concerning you and also identify your strengths and resources. A bit like learning to drive or acquiring any new skill, regularly attending sessions helps you stay more connected to what you are learning about yourself while the space between sessions gives you time to process what you have experienced in the session. Some people come for as little as 6 weeks, other people come for a number of years. It depends on your reasons for coming and the goals you set yourself.

How does one choose an appropriate therapist ?

Choosing who is going to support you on your journey can be a daunting task. There are a lot of different therapists and therapies to choose from and it's easy to feel a bit paralysed, especially if you are already feeling low or confused. Reading a number of websites to compare and contrast and then contacting two or three people can be helpful.

If, after reading this website, you would like to call me then we can have a chat about what is concerning you and what you are looking for. If you feel comfortable we would then arrange an initial session. Alternatively, you can simply text me to make an appointment. An initial session will give you the opportunity to experience a little of how we might work together and to see whether you feel we are a good "fit". It is also an opportunity for me to ensure that I am an appropriate person to help you. For further information that might help you decide whether you would like us to meet, please check out the additional tabs above.

I work in Buckinghamshire with clients who are both local to me from Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, Amersham and Aylesbury and with clients who come from as far as Central London.

Thank you for taking the time to read my website. I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm wishes, Charlotte
